Ford halts F-150 Lightning production due to potential battery issue

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) stock is down 1.34% in midday trading on Tuesday following the American automaker’s announcement that it will stop producing and shipping its electrified F-150 Lightning pickup truck due to what it is describing as a potential battery issue.

A car showed a potential issue as part of the automaker’s pre-delivery quality inspections, but Ford spokesperson Emma Bergg declined to provide more information about the potential battery problem.

“The team is diligently working on the root cause analysis,” Bergg said, adding the company is “doing the right thing by our customers” to resolve any potential issues before resuming production and shipments.

The company is not currently aware of any occurrences or problems connected to the potential battery problem. Dealers may continue to sell the vehicles they currently have in stock because there is no stop-sale for those already on dealer lots.

Ford halts has not established a timeline for when production and the shipments will resume, Bergg said.
