U.S. stocks start week with gains on fed rate hike termination hopes

At the beginning of the trading session on Monday, U.S. stocks experienced a slight uptick, driven by optimism surrounding the possibility of the Federal Reserve halting its rate hikes. FactSet data revealed that this positive trend followed the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite’s best week in a year, during which all three indices gained 0.3%.

These indices recorded their most significant weekly gains since late 2022 last week, and this positive momentum is anticipated to continue. Investors are closely monitoring upcoming events, including Fed Governor Lisa Cook’s address at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time and the release of the Fed’s senior loan survey at 2 p.m.

Despite a slight decrease last week, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose by nine basis points, reaching around 4.61% today. This increase in yield suggests growing investor confidence in the resilience of the U.S. economy amid changes in Federal Reserve policies.
